Baltimore Co. police investigate a Friday night accident that left a 53-year-old bicyclist dead

Baltimore County Police Department is continuing to investigate an incident that left a 53-year-old bicyclist dead.

On Friday, just before 8:30 p.m., Baltimore County Police arrived to a crash on Baltimore National Pike at Rich Avenue. In the early stages of the investigation, officers revealed that a 2008 Toyota Camry was traveling westbound in the second lane of the Baltimore National Pike when the car hit a man riding a bike. It appears that just before the collision, the bicyclist had changed lanes into the path of the car.

The Baltimore County Fire Department transported the bicyclist to St. Agnes Hospital, where, just after 9 p.m., he was pronounced dead. He was identified as Thomas Gerald Cofiell. The occupants of the Camry were not injured. However, crash investigators are continuing to review this incident.

In addition to this investigation, Baltimore County officers are also looking into a shooting that happened early Saturday morning.

Just before 1 a.m., a police officer heard several gunshots near the 8100 block of Liberty Road and decided to investigate. They later learned that a 28-year-old shooting victim had walked into a nearby hospital for treatment. According to the victim, he was in the 8100 block of Liberty Road when an unknown suspect shot him. He suffered multiple injuries, but is expected to survive.
