148th State Police Academy Class Graduates

REISTERSTOWN, Md. — The 148th Academy Class of the Maryland State Police graduated on Friday.

After 27 weeks of rigorous training, the candidates will join the ranks of the State's finest.

The class consists of 36 trooper candidates, 8 are military veterans, 5 are prior state police cadets and 4 are following in the following in the footsteps of family members like Derek Harper, who is a third generation trooper.

If you have a dream, law enforcement, military, firefighter, any job you want to do and there's any question about whether you can do it take that and use it as your motivation. Move forward with it and i can tell you, you can do it," said Harper.

After graduation, each trooper will complete eight weeks of additional field training with an experienced Trooper before they are able to patrol alone.
