Baltimore's boxing scene continues to grow and Friday night a West Baltimore boxer will have his first shot on national TV.
It's a familiar story: a local kid learns to love boxing, works hard and earns his big opportunity but in the case of Glenn Dezurn, one of his biggest sparring partners is also his wife.
He's 8-0 in his professional boxing career, with six knockouts. His training partner and wife, Franchon Crews earned her first win as a professional boxer in a fight last month in Las Vegas.
They became life partners after starting out as training partners - and that part of the relationship has not gone away.
"If nobody gives me any sparring, he'll be like, come on big momma I'll spar with you," Crews said. "Or if he needs like that last two rounds to push him over the edge he'll be like come on big momma give me these last two rounds."
And Dezurn says his wife is willing and able to dish out at least as much punishment as she takes.
"At the end of the day, she's better than half of the guys I've been in the ring with," he said.
Dezurn will fight Leroy Davila Friday night at the MGM National Harbor.
