Spirit Halloween brings smiles to kids in hospital

It's that time of year where kids embrace their best ghouls, ghosts and goblins. They then take to the streets to get all the treats they can.

Unfortunately, for some kids it's not that easy.

Kids who are in the hospital miss out on Halloween parties at school and trick-or-treating with friends.

That's where the Spirit of Children steps in, making hospitals a little less scary for kids and their families around Halloween time.

Kids get to pick costumes, go trick-or-treating, make crafts and paint pumpkins. Embracing the simple joys of being a kid.

Lindie McDonoughfrom Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital loves how kids faces light up when they get to experience something like going to a party.

"We had a patient this morning (Thursday) whose really been struggling in physical therapy. It's very painful for him to walk and each morning it's very difficult for him, but this morning he did so well in physical therapy. He said, I'm in the best mood, I can walk wherever you want me too because I get to go to a Halloween party after this."

Spirit of Halloween was brought to the hospital in 2007. It was established in 2006 and has brought smiles to kids in over 139 hospitals across the country and in Canada.
