Anyone with a dog knows that special bond you share, making it that much harder to ever have to part with them.

Sadly, one woman had to give up her two pets after nearly 20 years. A cancer diagnosis left her unable to care for them, but there's a happy ending for the two senior dogs in need of a new home.

Bruce Miller-Crumrine saw the heart-wrenching Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS)post on Facebook and felt compelled to act.

”Their mom was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer and had to go into a hospice center, and so they were surrendered here to BARCS so we could find a new family to care for them,” said Bailey Deacon, the director of communications for BARCS.

That family came quickly. Miller-Crumrine was immediately drawn to 18-year-old Bruno and 17-year-old Caramel.

“You find the dog that grabs your heart and that's the dog you adopt. Sometimes it may be a puppy, sometimes it may be a younger dog, but a lot of the time the elderly dogs, the senior dogs who are at the back of their cages just sitting there waiting for someone to take them home that's what compelled me to do that and that's what I hope compels others,” he said.

Miller-Crumrine knows he won't share the memories they had in their younger days, but said he will be there for the rest of their days.

“Months, years, weeks whatever we can give them that's what I want to give and that's what people should look into when they're adopting a dog,” said Miller-Crumrine.

Because even though they had to part, he wants their first family to rest easy knowing the two will always be cared for.

“I hope that she just feels very much at ease knowing that her dogs are being taken care of. She's taken them this far and we're ready to finish the rest of the road,” said Miller-Crumrine.
