On Wednesday afternoon, police shot and killed a 70-year-old woman believed to be experiencing a mental health crisis in her own home.

It was just after 2:30 p.m. officers responded to the 2700 block of Mosher Street for two calls for service.

When they arrived, they tried to speaking to the woman but officers saw she was holding a knife.

According to Police Commissioner Richard Worley, the officers gave her numerous commands to drop it but she didn't listen.

Instead, the woman lunged at officers with the weapon, police say, while they were attempting to get her to the hospital.

Officers fired a taser to restrain her, but it was "ineffective."

One of the involved officers tried to exit the house and tripped over a chair. While laying down, the woman lunged again, causing the second officer to fire two shots at the woman.

She was taken to the hospital where she later died.

Baltimore Police report there have been more than 26 calls to this house this year, including calls for behavioral health crises.

The officer who fell was taken to the hospital and is being assessed for a possible back injury. His condition is unknown at this time.

This shooting comes eight days after another officer-involved shooting near the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Laurens Street, that killed a well-liked arabber, 36-year-old Bilal Abdullah Jr.

Police say Abdullah Jr, had displayed a firearm in a private business and made threatening statements as seen on unreleased video obtained by investigators. When approached by officers they say he began running, as shown in body-worn camera video released earlier this week.

Police report that when the first shot is heard, all police weapons were holstered. An officer was injured after a bullet struck his foot.
