The Baltimore Board of Estimates approved a deal Wednesday with the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore to get more police officers downtown.

The vote will allow the partnership to pay three officers and a sergeant to patrol the Inner Harbor and Charles Street corridor at night.

The partnership said it didn't think the police department had the staff or budget to patrol downtown.

"What we're doing is supplementing that in efforts of make sure that we're getting the best product, collectively," Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said.

The agreement is expected to begin immediately.

Officers will patrol downtown from 6 p.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday, and from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
