Months after fire killed 6 Malone children, investigators rule its cause as 'undetermined'

After a three month investigation, Baltimore fire officials ruled the cause of a fire that took the lives of six children as undetermined.

On January 12, fire swept through the Malone family home in the 4200 block of Springwood Avenue just off of Belair Road in Northeast Baltimore.

Six children died in the fire and four other members of the family were injured.

“Our heartfelt condolences continue to go out to the Malone family,” said Chief Ford. “This was an overwhelming incident and a huge loss for the Malone family, the City of Baltimore and to the members of the Baltimore City Fire Department.”

Katie Malone and three of her children escaped the burning home.

The six children who died in the fire were identified as Bridgett Malone (11), Amelia Malone (10), Amanda and Zoe Malone (3-year-old twins), William Malone IV (2) and Daniel Malone (8 months).

“This is a very difficult time. This tragedy was shocking and heartbreaking to everyone across the city and nation,” Chief Ford said.
