Baltimore mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has banned government-sponsored travel to North Carolina and Mississippi over the states’ controversial transgender bathroom laws.

Rawlings-Blake issued the order Tuesday in an official statement to cabinet members.

“I will not authorize any city-sponsored travel to those states while the current discriminatory situation exists,” Rawlings-Blake said in the statement. She goes on to say that city agencies should not bring travel requests to these states until the laws change.

“I am hopeful that our efforts, combined with those of so many other progressive governments and companies, will push North Carolina and Mississippi to make the changes necessary to respect all citizens,” she said.
