BALTIMORE — BARCS has given an update on the dog that was extremely neglected and whose collar was so deeply embedded into her neck that it was threatening her life.

The animal shelter says that Layla is still in the hospital and was able to have the initial surgery to repair the wound on her neck.

They say Layla’s condition from her abuse "was very severe and so we must also prepare for a long medical journey ahead."

BARCS is unsure of the costs of her medical treatment going forward and are seeking donations to the Franky Fund.

There is an open investigation for this case. It is important that if you have any information about Layla, you please call the Baltimore City 311 hotline to file a report with the BCPD and Baltimore City Animal Control.

The hotline is 24/7. You are able to remain anonymous.
