2-alarm fire displaces one family, one business in SW Baltimore

A two-alarm fire in southwest Baltimore Monday afternoon displaced one family and one business, according to the Baltimore City Fire Department. 

 

Crews were dispatched to Wilkens Avenue and South Fulton Street, where they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the second and third floors of three row homes. The fire spread to another row home and a business before it was contained. 

 

Three of the four row homes were vacant. The owner of the one occupied home was not home at the time of the fire, but her nine cats were in the house. 

 

Firefighters were able to rescue a kitten that was trapped in the house, and the other eight ran out of a back door when crews arrived. 

 

The fire was placed under control in about one hour. The fire caused about $140,000 in damages, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
