A new place designed to help people suffering from addiction opened on Monday in Anne Arundel County.

The Maryland House Detox is the state's first center built specifically for medical detoxification.

Supporters say using alternative opioids like methadone, is the most effective way to treat addiction to heroin, but opponents say it's just replacing one addiction with another.
