The two ran a home improvement business out of the residence.
From the outset, investigators suspected the victims were targeted.
“This isn’t something that’s random. There’s no random shooter out there. We do believe this person was here for a purpose," said Lieutenant AJ Gardiner.
Less than five hours after the killings, detectives identified 61-year-old Anthony Luis Reyes, of Nottingham, as a suspect.
Reyes reportedly knew the Hayes' personally and professionally, although no motive was revealed.
An officer spotted Reyes in a black Toyota Camry with out-of-state plates around Bluestone Street in Hanover.
When police tried puling him over, Reyes allegedly fled leading officers on a chase that ended near Quarterfield Road and I-97.
Once caught, Reyes continued putting up a struggle and resisting arrest.
“It’s just a horrible tragedy, we know that we have family members who are grieving tonight, and this entire community is grieving, and they are going to have to journey forward trying to make sense of what happened here today," Chief Amal Awad said.
