A bill aimed at getting Maryland students more active and curbing childhood obesity has been introduced in the General Assembly.

Del. Jay Walker is proposing the Student Health and Fitness Act, or House Bill 393. It would require schools to provide at least 90 minutes of physical education a week.

Elementary schools would have to provide an additional 60 minutes a week for recess.

Officials say Montgomery County public schools would have to make the most changes because they require the least amount of minutes of physical education a week.
