Three-year-olds in New York City could soon go to preschool for free.

Mayor Bill de Blasio is pushing the initiative as part of his reelection campaign. Free preschool for 4-year-olds was one of his signature issues when he was elected in 2013.

The new initiative would enroll up to 62,000 kids in preschool.

De Blasio's plan will start in two low-income neighborhoods in Brooklyn and the Bronx this fall before expanding citywide in 2021.
