Two months after her 4-year-old son lost his battle with cancer, his mom Ruth shared the heartbreaking story on Facebook.
"I've waited for a long time to write a little about Nolan's last days," she wrote. "His last few days shined with how amazing my son is. How beautiful he is. How he was made of nothing but pure love."
She says on Feb. 1, she sat down with his entire medical team. The oncologist told them the Mestastic Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma was "spreading like wildfire."
Nolan's cancer was untreatable.
She told him he didn't have to fight anymore.
Ruth says he slept for most of the days after.
"We had hospice on board, all of his IV medications, even his DNR signed. (I cannot explain to you what signing an Emergency Responder "Do Not Resuscitate" order for your angelic son feels like)
She says on his final night, they were watching YouTube in bed. She asked Nolan if she could take a shower.
"He smiled at me," she wrote. "I shut the bathroom door. He shut his eyes and went into a deep sleep, beginning the end of life passing."
When she opened the bathroom door, he was in a coma. She ran and jumped into bed with him. For a brief moment, he opened his eyes, smiled at his mom and said "I love you Mommy."
She shared the above picture, saying her son was afraid to leave her side, even when she showered.
"Now I'm the one terrified to shower," she wrote. "With nothing but an empty shower rug now where once a beautiful perfect little boy laid waiting for his Mommy."
