Detectives make arrest in Potomac River Rapist cold case

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Detectives from the cold case unit of the Montgomery County Department of Police have announced the arrest of Giles Daniel Warrick of South Carolina for a string of sexual assaults that took place over a 7 year period.

According to detectives, Warrick committed the sexual assaults between 1991 and 1998 where he would cut phone lines, force entry into homes, cover the victim's heads and sexually assault them.

Warrick was taken into custody on Wednesday in Horry County, South Carolina, on the strength of an arrest warrant. He was charged on six counts of first degree rape.

Detectives are concerned there may additional victims in the area given the prolonged period of time that has elapsed involving Warrick.
