Harford gala planned to support troops

Posted

When a soldier is injured doing their job it can takes weeks if not months to recover.

And while they're getting better, their families want to be by their side.

The Fisher House Foundation makes it possible for families to be with their loved one who is being cared for at a military or VA hospital. The housing is free and the Fisher houses are usually located right next to the hospitals for easy access.

"The real beauty is that they're close with other families who are going through the same thing," Brian Gawne, vice president of operations at Fisher House, said. "They know what they're going through and they make really close relationships with these other families who can empathize with what they're going through."

This weekend the group Chesapeake Support Our Heroes is holding a benefit gala to raise money for Fisher House.

The event will take place Saturday, September 26 at the Water's Edge Events Center in Belcamp. For more information on how to get tickets, click here.
