CARNEY, Md. — A five-hour standoff in Carney ended in tragedy on Friday.
Baltimore County Police were called to Arwell Court around 8am.
The caller wanted officers to check on the welfare of their friend.
Officers somehow accessed the home, at which point they heard a gunshot and retreated.
This prompted police to set up outside the home for a potential hostage barricade situation.
After hours of being unable to make contact with the person, units again entered the home.
Inside they found the person dead, suffering from what appeared to be a self inflicted gunshot wound.
No one else was injured. Throughout the day, residents in the neighborhood were told to shelter in place until the scene was deemed safe.
