COLLEGE PARK, Md. — A former University of Maryland student has filed a lawsuit against the school.
Hannah Smith says the school exposed her to gluten.
According to the lawsuit, Smith informed the school of her allergy in July 2017.
Because of her Celiac Disease, Smith must adhere to a gluten-free diet. If she is exposed, she can become seriously ill and suffer long-term health problems.
Smith claims the school gave her food with gluten several times, including in October 2017, when dining staff told her the frosted flakes were gluten free and they recommend it to students with Celiac Disease.
