BALTIMORE — Today is Martin Luther King Jr. day, a day we honor the life and accomplishments of the civil rights leader.

People around the country volunteer to honor Dr. King.

In Baltimore, Civic Works hosted its annual MLK Day of Service.

The nonprofit organization held 9 socially-distanced projects and virtual opportunities, including a community lot cleanup in the 1200 block of Shields Place in the Upton-Harlem Park neighborhood.

"We also partnered with the Biden Inaugural Committee who's doing a day of service today so we are not only the 280 of us, but we're connected to thousands across the country who are saying today make it a day on not a day off. Martin Luther King always said everybody can be great because everyone can serve and that;s what we're doing today."

Other civic works projects included landscaping urban farms, sorting clothes for Americorps members and writing cards to Baltimore seniors.
