Two studies released Friday show the health benefits to kids by having a dog around.

One study was done right here in Baltimore.

The study examined how a dog's exposure can provide a protective effect against asthma in kids.

The one down side is that if a child is allergic to dogs, the symptoms can get worse.

The second study examined how babies can be protected from eczema when their mothers are exposed to dogs during pregnancies.

Results found that exposure to dogs lowers the risk of eczema by the age of two, but the protective effect goes down by the age of 10.
