HANOVER, Md. — Construction is going on at the Maryland Live Casino & Hotel at Arundel Mills Mall.
A new sports bar and entertainment complex is going up in the middle of the casino. It will have 212 seats and a huge 47 foot wide main screen.
It also hopes to have sports gambling available. Question 2 for this years election asks Marylander’s if they want sports gaming in Maryland.
Joe Weinberg, with the Cordish Companies says almost half the states in the US have sports gambling and many of them near us.
"So all of our tax dollars are leaving the state going to surrounding states," he explained.
That number is nothing to ignore.
"It’s going to generate $40 million dollars in new direct gaming tax revenue that will go to funding education here in Maryland and there will be 100 million dollars in spin off revenue," Weinberg said.
If the referendum passes for sports gambling and other factors line up, there could be sports gaming in about 2 months after it is approved in the legislature.
