Maryland casinos will have some new action in their betting parlors. Maryland voters approved sports gambling in Maryland by a 2-1 margin. States surrounding our state have already approved sports gaming.

"Ultimately, I thinks it’s important to keep the money here in Maryland, so I voted for it. I’m not a huge fan of gambling. You know, the money people would lose gambling, but the money is probable going out of the state anyway, so I thought might as well keep it in state," John Harvey said.

Studies say Maryland will gain $1.5 million a month for education, some surveys say that number will be even higher. This will not be the first time Live! Casino and Hotel’s ownership, the Cordish Company, has added gambling on sports to their casinos.

"We’ve done this over 10 times, we’ve refined this concept to really turn it into the premier sports entertainment complex in the country."

If all goes as planned, some expect betting on sports available in Maryland sometime this summer. Although added revenue is nice for us, some have reservations about those that may not be able to control their play.

"I know a couple of people who have lost a lot of money where I work downtown in Annapolis and I can see it destroying their lives," Walt Dunford said.

Now that Maryland has approved sports gambling, it’s up to the Governor and the legislators to decide where and how this will be implemented.
