ABC2 News is proud to take part in the Scripps Howard Foundation's "If You Give a Child a Book" campaign.

For the month of August, employees at each of the company's television and radio stations are pledging money to buy books for children in need.

The books will be distributed to a variety of nonprofit organizations across the country.

Last year, Scripps employees raised approximately $143,000 to buy books for children.

ABC2's staff collected over 1,000 books and raised nearly $3,000 to buy more books for kids in the Baltimore area.

This year's proceeds will be given to the Maryland Book Bank, a nonprofit organization that distributes free books to underprivileged children, schools and teachers.
