The ACLU of Maryland and the state's teachers' union are calling on Gov. Larry Hogan to withhold $5 million in state funding for private school vouchers.
The groups made the call Friday after the Republican governor's budget chief announced Hogan would not spend $80 million that lawmakers set aside for various programs due to softening revenues.
The groups want Hogan to send the $5 million set aside for private school vouchers to public schools instead.
Shareese Churchill, a Hogan spokeswoman, says the governor has provided record funding for public K-12 education in each of his two budgets.
