ELKTON, Md. (WMAR) — A Cecil County man is being held behind bars without bond for allegedly kicking and beating his 5-month-old pit bull to death.

On Monday, the Elkton Police Department responded to Mallard Court for an animal cruelty complaint.

Officers investigating the incident found that 42-year-old Ibe Lyles had killed the puppy while it was tied to a fence, preventing the dog from defending itself or running away.

Animal Control was called to conduct a preliminary investigation and to recover the puppy's body. A necropsy will determine the official cause of death.

Lyles was arrested on the scene and is charged with aggravated animal cruelty, restrain dog - limit movement, and restrain dog - water/shelter.

His trial is scheduled for June 11, at 1 p.m. at the District Court for Cecil County.
