An employee of a Catonsville car dealership is accused of stealing a customer’s car while drunk and taking it for a ride, Baltimore County Police said.

Michael Linwood Cox, 44, of Glen Burnie is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on $25,000 bail after being charged with auto theft, DUI, driving on a revoked license and other charges.

Just after 12:20 a.m. on March 27, a Baltimore County police officer was patrolling in the 500 block of Edmonson Avenue in Catonsville when she saw the driver of a Hyundai Elantra driving erratically.

She pulled the car over, and Cox, who was driving, told her he had just put an engine in the car and was test driving it. Police said Cox’s breath smelled of alcohol.

Police said he worked at Antwerpen Hyundai on Baltimore National Pike, and the car belonged to a customer. Cox did not have permission to take it out.
