Armed robbery, assault, reckless endangerment and prostitution are just some of the serious charges Chukwuemeka Ekwonna is accused of.

The 27-year-old has worked for the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington DC for the last year, but now he's locked up.

"It is shocking and unfortunate, here you have a person who is placed in a position of trust,” said Anne Arundel County Police Department Spokesperson Marc Limansky.

He says the department started investigating Ekwonna about a month ago, after a 15-year-old girl told officials Ekwonna robbed her after paying her for sex.

"They initially made contact over the Tagged social media app," Limansky said.

The incident happened in a Glen Burnie parking lot back in January. Arrest paperwork says the teenager got into Ekwonna's car and agreed to engage in sexual activity for $80. But then the encounter took a violent turn.

According to court documents, when the teen tried to get out of the car the doors were locked. That's when investigators say Ekwonna reached up front and pulled out a handgun.

It goes on to say Ekwonna "pointed the weapon" at her and "demanded his money back." Once the teenager handed over the cash, he let her leave.

"We were able to obtain photos and he was ultimately identified by the victim through a line-up," said Limansky.

Ekwonna was arrested at his Prince George's County home Thursday night.  He's facing 11 charges for the incident. A person who answered at a phone number for Ekwonna declined to comment and no attorney is listed in online court records.

The Metropolitan Police Department tells us Ekwonna’s police powers have been revoked.

"He has been placed on a non-contact status within the agency and their internal investigations is aware and is also investigating the case," Limansky said.

Officials tell us the 15-year-old willingly took part in the prostitution, and is not being criminally investigated.
