Local food distributor supplies laid off service industry workers with food

ELKRIDGE, Md. — Elkridge based Saval Foodservice was in Fell's Point Thursday handing out food for those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company along with it's partners offered individuals the opportunity to pick up free bags of food, some of it bulk.

The Vice President of Saval stressed the importance of helping during this time of economic uncertainty for both restaurants and workers.

"We're all in this together," said Brian Saval. "Ever since this pandemic started we've focused on trying to give back as much as we can to people who need it."

Thursday saw an enormous turn out from restaurant workers who have seen their hours cut or eliminated altogether.

"To see them giving away this much food is really incredible," said Kelsey Brannick. "It definitely helps eliminate some stress."

Other organizations are pitching in with other events. The Facebook group The Baltimore Restaurant Relief Group is constantly updating members with different types of assistance.
