Which stores are refusing to open Thanksgiving?

The lines for Black Friday shopping will be forming even earlier this year.

Macy's, Target, Kohl’s, Best Buy, and others have announced a 6 p.m. store opening Thanksgiving Day.

Walmart’s “Doorbuster” deals are also expected to begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, with Toys R Us expected to open as early as 5 p.m. according to the websites BradsDeals.com.

For many retailers, Black Friday is now Black Thursday.

But not everyone is happy about it.

"I don’t think it’s a good thing,” said shopper Juanita McMillan. “I think (Thanksgiving) is family time.”

McMillan is not alone in her opinion. Almost 50,000 people have joined the Facebook group, “Boycott Black Thursday ” to demonstrate against any store that opens on Thanksgiving this year.

According to the Facebook page, the following stores have refused to open Thanksgiving and will instead open Friday:

  • American Girl
  • BJ’s Wholesale Club
  • Burlington
  • Costco
  • Crate and Barrel
  • Dillard’s
  • Gordmans
  • Homegoods
  • Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores
  • Marshalls
  • Nordstrom
  • Pier 1 Imports
  • REI
  • Sierra Trading Post
  • T.J.Maxx

But most of these are stores that don’t have big Black Friday crowds anyway (who lines up outside Nordstrom or JoAnn Fabrics?)

Most major retailers, fighting for the shopper’s dollar, will open 6 p.m. Thursday.
