WASHINGTON (WMAR) — A former United States Navy Employee will spend 40-years in federal prison for producing, transporting, and possessing child pornography.

Maryland U.S. District Court Judge Paul W. Grimm sentenced 36-year-old Spencer E. Steckman on Thursday.

According to court filings, Steckman had been living in Silver Spring when for years, he enticed at least 10 preteen and teenage boys to record and send him sexually explicit conduct.

Steckman did this by misrepresenting his identity, offering the children money and video game redemption codes, and even encouraging them to compete with one another to produce and send the best photos.

By mid-November 2017, Steckman re-located to Japan for his job in the Navy, where he continued to transport and possess the child pornography.

On March 27, 2018, Steckman was detained in Japan and extradited back to Maryland, by the U.S. Marshals, where he's remained in custody since.

Throughout the investigation, prosecutors also found out about two other children, who Steckman molested several times in the past. One of the boys was given cash and marijuana in exchange for sexual activity.

Following his sentence, Steckman will be on supervised release for life. He was also ordered to pay the victims $120,000 in restitution.
