CATONSVILLE — Long-term construction is expected to cause major delays on Interstate 695 this weekend in Catonsville.

A new traffic pattern will go into effect as crews continue to work on widening the west side of the beltway.

From 5P.M. Friday to 5A.M. Monday, traffic on the outerloop will be reduced to just one lane at Frederick Road as crews repave
the roadway. The ramp to Frederick Road will remain shut down at this time.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid I-695 in this vicinity while the lane closures are implemented.

"We realize it is going to be inconvenient but by doing this we are significantly reducing the amount of time Frederick Road will stay closed. There will be detours posted but we are urging just for safety rasons and out of abundance of caution for motorists to just avoid the area altogether," Sherry Christian, Media Relations Manager at the Maryland State Highway Adminstration said.

The $68 million project hopes to reduce traffic jams in the future. It is expected to be finished in Fall of 2021.
