Week of Shopping: What to purchase now & what you should wait to buy

The biggest shopping weekend of the year is here. Shoppers are estimated to spend more than $800 the Friday after Thanksgiving through Monday.

“You will not find better deals on electronics all year long,” said Sara Skirboll, a shopping expert with RetailMeNot. “You can get 55-inch HD 4K super fancy televisions for under $200, which is absolutely unheard of.”

Skirboll said to be on the lookout for crazy good deals this year. They're going on in-store and online, but for the best discounts you may need to put in the legwork.

“Last year, Best Buy had up to 70 percent off on door busters. Now, I anticipate Best Buy is going to have deals all weekend long. They might not be upwards of 70 percent off, but they will probably be around 30, 40, 50 percent off,” Skirboll said.

Stellar deals for most items but there's a category you may want to hold off on.

“Toys. The deepest discount on toys are going to be two weeks before Christmas but you have to weigh your options. Are your toys going to be sold out by then?” said Skirboll.

It's important to have a shopping strategy:

  • Track deals in the days leading up to Black Friday
  • Sign-up for email alerts on your favorite retailer's websites
  • Most importantly, create a budget and pace yourself

There’s Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and now the week of shopping is getting even longer.

Travel Tuesday is taking off. It’s the Tuesday after Thanksgiving where you can find good deals on flights, hotels, tours, and vacation packages.
