Hurricanes Maria and Lee, where they're headed next?

Two hurricanes churning in the Atlantic
Posted

The active hurricane season continues with two hurricanes in the Atlantic ocean as of Wednesday night. Hurricanes Maria and Lee are maintaining their strength after Maria temporarily weakened to tropical storm status Tuesday night. Now Maria is a category one hurricane again while Lee has maintained category three strength over several days.

Where are they headed?

Even though Maria got pretty close to the US earlier this week, neither of these hurricanes are expected to impact the United States. A strong cold front will push both of these storms further out to sea where they'll eventually be captured by the jet stream.

Another Disturbance to Watch

Some models are developing another tropical system near the Gulf over the next 7 days. Be sure to keep up with the tropics with our Hurricane Webpage to see if this system continues to develop.
