The National Weather Service in Wakefield, Virginia, has confirmed a tornado touched down on Monday, Aug. 1 in Ocean City. The tornado was rated an EF-0, with peak winds estimated at 80 mph and a path 50 yards wide.
The tornado started at 4:40 p.m. and lasted until 4:45 p.m., the weather service confirmed Tuesday. The tornado originally started off as a waterspout in the Assawoman Bay before it came ashore near Route 50 and Philadelphia Avenue.
The storm caused damage to several businesses and overturned a large supply container - moving it to the next beach over.
