Rainy Kick Off to Light City
Most of Maryland has been under a moderate drought since Mid-Winter due to below average rain and snow since the start of 2017. Now that we're officially in Spring we really need some rain and so do those plants.
Friday we'll get some of the rain that we really need as an area of low pressure makes its way across the country, bringing with it a hefty dose of precipitation. Up to 2" of rain or more will be possible in spots by Saturday morning according to several models. Here's a look at our in house model (RPM) showing a reasonable projection of possible rain totals.
Synopsis for the Soggy Set-Up
The gulf of Mexico is open for business and this storm is grabbing an abundance of moisture as it moves east towards the Mid-Atlantic. Precipitable Water values will be very high during the morning commute and once again in the afternoon. This combined with significant lift provided by decent divergence aloft, will lead to a long lasting heavy rain event. There will even be enough instability for embedded thunderstorms and gusty winds.
