Powerful storms will impact holiday travel just before Christmas Eve. Maryland will stay clear of wide spread severe weather, but storms will be possible for the Baltimore area.
The Culprit: A Spring Like Pattern
High pressure is in position over the Atlantic, pumping heat & moisture as far north as the Great Lakes. Temps will average 15° to 20° above normal due to this set up. Severe storms are always possible with a set up like this, but the need a "Lifting Mechanism" - and today we have one ↓
A strong low pressure is moving thru the Southern Plains and Midwest bringing the potential for damaging winds & tornados. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a rare Moderate Risk of severe weather for the areas shaded in red. ↓
If you're traveling in these areas or know someone living in these areas, please encourage them to be weather aware. Cold season severe weather usually catches people off guard.
