BALTIMORE — More than 100 local military families celebrated Veterans Day at Port Discovery.

The children's museum partnered with United Service Organization's Metro Bob Hope Legacy Reading Program.

Children were asked to record a reading of a book of their choice and have it sent to their family members currently serving overseas.

"Play is one of the very best way how children learn but it’s also how they cope with stress. This is a stressful time for adults and for kids. It’s hard for families to spend time together that might not be in front of a television screen or around other families in a safe way."

Throughout the year, hundreds of events take place at USO-Metro Facilities and Aid in boosting morale, building a sense of community and helping to ease the burdens of a transient military.
