Several road closures throughout Baltimore City this weekend

BALTIMORE — There will be several road closures this weekend from Aug. 2 through Aug. 4, due to events going on throughout the city.

The Department of Transportation wants to advise motorists of the traffic modifications that will be in effect.

On Saturday, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., the Mayor's annual Back to School Rally will take place at the War Memorial Plaza. Due to the event, the following streets will be closed to through traffic on Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with detours and parking restrictions in effect:

  • Lexington Street between Guilford Avenue and Gay Street
  • Holliday Street between Saratoga and Lexington Streets
  • Gay Street between Fayette and Lexington Streets

In addition, lane closures will be implemented along the following streets on Saturday from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with parking restrictions in effect:

  • Fayette Street (south side) from Gay to Holliday Streets
  • Gay Street (west side) from Fayette to Lexington Streets
  • Holliday Street (both sides) from Saratoga to Lexington Streets
  • Lexington Street (both sides) from Guilford Avenue to Gay Street

Also on Saturday, the Casey Cares Foundation 5K Run will taken place from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in South Point at Port Covington. The majority of the race route will be off-road along paved bike paths but will affect portions of Cromwell Street, Dickman Street, Insulator Drive and Port Covington Drive.

Commuters should be advised that there may be temporary traffic stops in those areas.

The Lille May Carroll Jackson Old School to New School 5K Run/Walk will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday and participants will head south along The Alameda and south onto St. Lo Drive to finish on the field at the intersection of Sinclair Lane.

In preparation for the event, one lane of travel will be coned off for pedestrians along the race route wherever possible.

Citizens should be advised that temporary traffic stops may be implemented during the race for the safety of participants.

There will also be temporary lane closures along a portion of the Jones Falls Expressway for storm drain cleaning.

On Saturday a right lane closure will be implemented along the southbound Jones Falls Expressway between the county line and Fayette Street from approximately 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A portion of Charles Street will also be temporarily closed for a crane lift operation on Saturday.

Lane closures will be implemented along N. Charles Street between W. 28th and W. 27th Streets from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. At least one lane of through traffic will remain open for motorists during this time.

A portion of Biddle Street will also be closed for a crane lift operation.

On Saturday, Aug. 3, Biddle Street will be closed between N. Chester Street and Collington Avenue from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with detours in effect.
