Motorists are encouraged to avoid Interstate 895 as long term construction continues.
The northbound bore of the Harbor Tunnel will close Friday, April 12 and will not reopen for approximately 60 days, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.
The southbound bore will carry two-way traffic. In spring 2020, the southbound bore will close and two-way traffic will get by in the northbound bore.
The $189 million I-895 project will replace the MDTA's only remaining structurally deficient bridge. It will also replace the Holabird Avenue exit ramp and repair the tunnel portal, approach ramps and walls, deck and tiles.
Construction is expected to be completed in summer 2021.
Until then, drivers should use I-695/Key Bridge and I-95/Ft. McHenry Tunnel as alternate routes.
