Training for a Tri: Swimming and Biking Oh My!

There's just 61 days until I hit the road for my first triathlon - the Iron Girl Sprint Triathlon in Columbia, Md.

I've been doing a lot of strength training with some intermittent cardio throughout the spring. I definitely prefer lifting weights to cardio. Now it's time to really get into gear.

For the next couple of weeks, my plan is to swim and bike at least once a week, doing at least one twice a week. My training won't incorporate a lot of running because I develop nasty shin splints when I run. I'll start impact running just two or three weeks before race day.

Friday, I hit the pool and swam 0.32 miles. I'll need to be comfortable with 0.62 before race day, but it's all about progress.

Saturday my cousin and I headed out for a bike ride around the Liberty Reservoir in Baltimore and Carroll counties.

I'm always looking for new rides and trails. I have a road bike, so sometimes it can be challenging to find safe paths. Have a suggestion? Tweet me @KateMills_ABC2 and like me on Facebook.
