Naval Academy retires Keenan's Reynolds jersey

Posted

The Naval Academy announced that senior quarterback Keenan Reynolds will be the last Navy football player to wear No. 19.

Naval Academy Superintendent Vice Admiral Ted Carter, USN, made the announcement Sunday. Reynolds joins Roger Staubach (No. 12), Joe Bellino (No. 27) and Napoleon McCallum (No. 30) whose numbers have been retired.

"This is quite an honor and something that I never dreamed would happen," Reynolds said. "I give all the credit to my teammates over the past four years none of this would have been possible. I would like to thank Vice Admiral Carter, Mr. Gladchuck and Coach Niumatalolo for this unbelievable honor that I will never forget."

Reynolds finished his career with a 32-13 record, the most wins in school history by a quarterback. He finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting.

He was 7-1 in Service Academy games, including 4-0 against army. Reynolds is the only quarterback in the history of the Army-Navy game to win four games. His seven career touchdowns scored are the most in history of the rivalry game.

Reynolds scored 88 touchdowns in his career, all rushing. They are the most rushing touchdowns in Division I history and the most total touchdowns in FBS history. In addition, he's the first player to score 23 or more rushing touchdowns in a single season three different times. He also holds the record for more career points, 530.

He recorded 4,559 career rushing yards, which is the most in FBS history by a quarterback and the most in school history by any player. He's just the sixth player to rush and pass for 4,000 yards in a career. His 22 career 100-yard rushing games are the most in school history.

Aside from having his jersey retired, Reynolds is the winner of three major awards: the E.E. "Rip" Miller Award, the Roger Staubach Award and the Napolean Callum Award.
