(WMAR) — Former Baltimore Ravens player Torrey Smith announces retirement from football through a special video message entitled "Dear Football."
Smith went on to say that he knew that this day would come and has anticipated it his entire career.
"It's the NFL circle of life and I am prepared for what is next," said Smith.
In his penned letter to football with a special dedication to Baltimore, he thanked the sport for the opportunity to go to college, for his teammates, the lessons, the highs and lows of the game, and the significance of hard work and persistence.
"Football is what I did, but it is not who I am," said Smith. "I'm looking forward to use the platform you've [football] given me to continue to serve my true purpose. Changing my community for the better."
