Towson will be making its eighth NCAA Tournament appearance and fourth under head coach Sonia LaMonica. The Tigers are still searching for that first NCAA Tournament win.
They'll be facing a familiar foe. Old Dominion used to be a conference rival when they were a member of the CAA. They've moved to the Atlantic Sun and the Tigers and Monarchs are playing for the first time since 2013.
We're really excited to host ODU here, a team that we haven't seen in a number of years, but was a conference foe in former years," LaMonica said. "It'll be nice to see a different team again and I'm really excited for that challenge."
Although Towson is not a top-seeded team, the university has to the opportunity to host first and second round games because of a scheduling conflict. LaMonica said she's thrilled with the bracket placing and seeding and looking forward to the opportunity to host.
"It was a stroke of luck to be able to host, we're going to take it and try to make the most of it," LaMonica said.
The Tigers are hoping to expand on their CAA championship success to put together a victory in the NCAA tournament.
The winner of Friday's matchup will face the winner of No. 7 Penn/Wagner on Sunday. Opening draw is set for 5:30 p.m. between the Tigers and Monarchs. Ticket information can be found here.
