Orioles Pitcher Kevin Gausman and his wife, Taylor, are hoping to give kids more confidence reading through a partnership with BARCS.
They launched a program called Tails with Tales on Friday at the animal rescue shelter. The program pairs kids with adoptable pets as reading buddies. The pets get a new companion while helping kids improve reading comprehension and vocabulary development.
"When I was in class, I was uncomfortable reading. I spoke really loud, so I was self-conscious about how I pronounced words," GAusman said, "to be able to have this and they don't have to worry about someone judging them."
Each of the kids involved in the program's launch were given a two free tickets to an upcoming Orioles gams.
