BALTIMORE — Much like they do for COVID-19 cases, a team of Johns Hopkins University researchers have put together an interactive dashboard that tracks in real time school reopening plans across the United States.

So far 46 State Boards of Education and 13 national policy organizations have issued policy guidance about reopening K-12 schools, the dashboard says.

Researchers believe equity is an issue that should be at the center of any safe reopening plan, meaning consideration for low-income students and children of color.

According to Johns Hopkins, a third of published reopening plans don't mention equity at all while others do but with little detail.

The Tracker will be broken down by the four points below

So far, Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City , Baltimore County, and Harford County have decided to begin the 2020-2021 school year off entirely virtually.

Maryland State Superintendent Karen Salmon has given districts until August 14 to submit their reopening proposals.

Below is the Maryland State Department of Education's guidance on reopening schools.
