WALTON COUNTY, Ga. — Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman faces charges stemming from an incident in June in Walton County, Georgia.
According to court records obtained by WMAR-2 News, Bateman is accused of family violence in Georgia after he allegedly smashed the windows of the car belonging to the mother of his child, a 2021 Mercedes-Benz, with his 3-month-old inside, on June 3.
The incident reportedly occurred around 6 a.m. that morning.
Court records state that glass shattered after Bateman allegedly smashed the windows with an "object or instrument," causing the victim to sustain multiple lacerations to her face.
Police also noted they saw glass fragments on her face when speaking with her, along with multiple contusions that were caused during the initial dispute.
Court documents state that Bateman's three-month-old child was sitting in a car seat behind the driver's seat.
Bateman turned himself in to the Walton County Sheriff's Office the same day as the incident.
WMAR-2 News reached out to the Baltimore Ravens for comment, and they replied with the following statement:
"We are aware of the situation involving Rashod and have been in direct communication with him. We notified the league office and have been cooperating throughout the process. As this is a pending legal matter, we will not have further comment."
WMAR-2 News also obtained a statement from Jordan Siev, Bateman's attorney, regarding the incident:
"It is unfortunate that a personal family situation has been taken completely out of context for sensational reasons. We will let the court process play out, and the facts will come out at that time."
Bateman, 26, was drafted by the Ravens with the 27th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. In his career, he has tallied 157 receptions, 2,147 receiving yards, and 15 touchdowns.
The Ravens and Bateman agreed to a two-year contract extension in 2024 worth $12.8 million, followed by a three-year extension worth $36.75 million in 2025.
Bateman was notably absent during the Ravens' mandatory minicamp in June and has since joined the team for the start of training camp to prepare for the season.
The Ravens are set to face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2 of preseason games this Saturday.
