BALTIMORE, Md — The Maryland Department of Transportation launched their work zone safety campaign Tuesday. Their goal is to get drivers to slow down when going through construction sites.

In the last four years there have been thousands of work zone crashes and dozens of deaths.

"The crews you see here are our family," said Greg Slater of MDOT. "They're also someone's mother, father, sister, brother, son, or daughter. It's too important. They're delivering work that is meaningful. We need to protect them and you as you go through these work zones".

There are hundreds of projects underway throughout Maryland.

There is also a Road Ready app that drivers can download to help navigate around the construction.
