The House Majority Whip was shot in the hip while practicing for the Congressional baseball game in Alexandria, Virginia on June 14. He was shot in the hip with a rifle round, and suffered internal bleeding and damage to internal organs.
Doctors said Rep. Scalise was near death when he arrived at the hospital after the shooting and that he would require multiple surgeries.
Capitol Police officers shot and killed the shooter at the scene.
